Yikes I got bit!

Sandal's Resorts

For the people that know me, I am a high energy type of person and have a difficult time relaxing fully. But Sandal's Resort (couples) was the ideal place for absolute complete relaxation. The atmosphere was breathtakingly beautiful, romantic and serene. It was adorned with fire pits to watch the sunset and have a glass of wine, floral gazebos and archways throughout, cozy nooks and crannies where you could just sneak away from others,

entertainment areas to listen to music, pools and private bungalows, and lots of amazing places to eat in all kinds of romantic settings.

At the time I had been dating my boyfriend (now ex) for a few months and he said," Where would you like to go on spring break an island or a fun country?; I am taking us on a vacation!" I replied."I love both ideas!! He mentioned Sandal's in Antigua. I had never been to a Sandal's resort before and from what I heard, the Antigua resort, far surpassed the others. We decided that we would go to an island first and then later in the summer a fun country. However, I was petrified about getting the West Nile virus as it was in the news and plastered all over airports at that time because there had been documented cases in the surrounding islands and most recently there. I kept thinking "If only there weren't mosquitoes..." But then I said to myself I will regret not going...so just go! OH NO! MAGARI!

My boyfriend at the time ordered permethrin, a mosquito repellent, and we sprayed our clothes before we traveled and packed loose fitting summer clothing that basically covered our arms and legs.

When we arrived at the resort, we were greeted by a host of the resort and given glasses of champagne and an island welcome. They went over all the amenities our resort had to offer and then pointed us to our private bungalow where we stayed. We were captivated by our welcome we received.

As we were walking, I literally got bit all over by mosquitoes even though they spray the island twice a day to kill the mosquitoes. My boyfriend didn't get bit once! Luckily, I did not contract West Nile and my bf was a doctor and packed a numbing creme to apply on the bites so they didn't itch. It was wonderful!!

We had the most spectacular time. The food was incredible and all day feasts as you can imagine with a resort of this caliber. I am pretty sure I had lobster just about ever day. We were both explorer type personalities and ventured off to tour the rest of the island on our own and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Antigua was the perfect location if you are looking to relax your mind, body and spirit. I was rejuvenated beyond what I ever thought possible and will definitely go back there someday.

Our umbrella stand

Stay tuned for Barcelona... One of the coolest places yet an unfortunate attack occurred while I was literally right there.
